SATURDAY SEEN WILLIAM HEADS WINNING THE ASSOCIATIONS FISHING CONSERVATION CUP , WULLIE IS SEEN BEEN PRESENTED WITH THE CUP SPONSOURED BY ALLOA HIRE CENTRE BY VICE CHAIRMAN JOHN Mc KORMACH, WILLIAM WON BY CATCHING AND RELEASING A 4LB SEA TROUT. WELL DONE TO WULLIE FROM ALL AT THE RIVER FORTH AND TEITH ANGLERS ASSOCIATION.
after the long heatwave and this combined with big choking tides, the grilse have finaly arrived in good numbers, they were reluctant to swim through the muddy tides and the vast majority waited til these started clearing before entering the river sytem, what we did observe that theres lots of small grilse between 2lb and 3lb ers , lots of them, some fishers are mistaking these fish for sea trout.
I was very happy to see the grilse arrive in good numbers and theres quite a few big salmon amongst them, seeing these numbers makes good breeding stock for future seasons so this is very good news for all involved in fishing on our Forth River sytem.
July seen a few salmon caught a couple good ones were caught on the fly at the dykes beat, one I heard of 15lb and one at 19lb . Quite a few fish around the 6lb to 8lb caught as well these on a variety of baits a couple on worm but more caught on fly again with occasional one on condom spinning, a few been hooked at the tidal streatches but not many fishers are venturing out at piers this year, I have fished at the piers but have had no luck with the salmon or grilse yet I got two nice sea trout in may both returned back safely about 2lb each caught on spoons, I get better luck for salmon on the bigger spates with my big spoons and tobys, so I will be anticipating the next big spate.
The River Teith , not many fishers have been venturing out due to the lack of water and fish there but I did venture up to the upper reaches and seen fish so that last small spate has taken stocks up to the private beats, I did speak to one angler who said he had caught a 10lb on the fly at blue banks.
The River Allan has a good run grilse in now one of our members got his first salmon on the fly there so well done john.
After a couple of small spates theres fresh water running through the sytem although the atmospheric conditions are putting a lot of the fish off from taking , recomendations to entice these fish is that whatever you have been using reduce the size of fly or lure to match the height of the river mepp spoons and size 12 flys small 10g condoms are doing well on the allan so if you like fishing condom try a 12g one on forth.
Prospects look very promising on the next big spate, I for one will be out,
and tight lines
